History

Jersey Shore got its name because there were two rival settlements on the Susquehanna River in 1785. The eastern shore was nicknamed Jersey Shore because the founder of the settlement on that side of the river relocated from New Jersey. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the town would become known for its religious leaders, spirit of fairness in business and companies such as the Jersey Shore Steel Company in Avis.
