What is there to do in Centre County? Of course everyone thinks of Penn State as the major attraction. But there are plenty of other activities in this beautiful area that don’t involve the university at all. Let’s find something for everyone!
Best place to start would probably be with an
overview of Center County where the different regions are highlighted. The
Visitor’s Bureau also gives a summary of the area.
Bellefonte is the
county seat and has remained true to its Victorian roots through the years. This charming town has
restaurants ranging from fast food to fine dining along with many unique downtown
shops. Hosting many special
events throughout the year, Bellefonte is a pleasant place to live, work, and relax.
The most well known town in Central PA is
State College, home of
Penn State University. But that isn’t all this town has to offer. Check out the historic
State Theatre,
Eisenhower Auditorium and
Bryce Jordan Center for all types of entertainment. Sports enthusiasts have
Nittany Lion football, the
State College Spikes semi-pro baseball team, and plenty of
local golf choices. State College is also home to many tasty
restaurants, offers a large selection of
shopping options, and annually hosts both
Arts Festival and
First Night.
Those who enjoy the outdoors can venture just a few miles from town to hike
Mt. Nittany, ski
Tussey Mountain, or fly fish in famous
Spruce Creek. Don’t miss the annual
Ag Progress Days or
Grange Fair held in August. And remember to visit
Boalsburg, home to the
PA Military Museum, quaint
shops, and the annual
People’s Choice Festival.
Whatever the season - whatever your reason – a trip to Centre County, PA is bound to be full of memories. And we bet you will want to visit again or perhaps relocate to this beautiful area so correctly dubbed “Happy Valley”.
